Scotland's Great Walks

The Kintyre Way - Campbeltown

August Walks . . . ‘Castles on the Kintyre Way’

Our August Walks took their first steps at the weekend as we embarked on our “Castles on the Kintyre Way” tours. The adventure began at Tarbert Castle with a tour of the grounds, including the new gardens and orchard, then headed off up the hill, high above this beautiful harbour village, before reaching Corranbuie and circling back. Next Saturday, on August 12, the route is from Dun Skeig, first meeting at 1 p.m. at Clachan Filling Station for a cuppa and a sandwich. From here we head through the village and on to Dun Skeig with its truly spectacular views.
This diversion is not officially on the Kintyre Way but is always well worth the visit.
On Friday, August 18, our Castles tour begins at Southend with the route meandering from Keil to Dunaverty. Be sure to bring sandwiches and snacks for a picnic stop, with time for an extra cuppa at Muneroy or in the Village Hall to finish.
This tour is also the perfect chance to catch up with our Southend Friends of the Kintyre Way. The wonderful Skipness Castle and Abbey are our starting points on Sunday, August 27, when the start time will be noon. There are several short circular walks around Skipness to choose from, or we can opt to head over to Tarbert, if we’re feeling energetic.
Although the Skipness Shop is closed on Sundays, the ever-popular Seafood Cabin will be open for lunch.

Finally, on Thursday, August 31, we are treated to the Laird’s Walk – the amazing, guided tour that is hosted at Torrisdale Castle. Our own tour will then take in Torrisdale, Saddell Castle and Grip, the much-loved statue by Anthony Gormley, and Saddell Abbey. There is the option to have lunch at Torrisdale or enjoy our own picnics before we walk the 1.5 miles of the Gintyre Way. The start time for this final August adventure is 10 a.m. For more information, or if you’d like to join us on our August Walks, please email [email protected]
